Terry Pratchett has been diagnosed with a rare form of early onset Alzheimer's, as he announced yesterday with a post to the web. The best-selling author of the Discworld fantasy books is 59 years-old.
This sucks. The Discworld series has been of my few light enjoyments in recent years.
How terribly sad. Pratchett is a great writer, a true literary heir to Jonathan Swift.
I'm reading Wee Free Men now and have read all of the Discworld books so far. This is a sad thing for Mr. Pratchett.
I didn't know that movies had been made of some of the series. I saw "Hogfather" on ION television this week--a two night mini series. Pretty good!
I hope to catch that when it's out on DVD.
I did not know about the screen adaptations, this requires investigation.
Let us know what you find out. I have the animated version of Wyrd Sisters--it's not great, but parts of it are very funny.
It must be very hard for a person diagnosed with a terminal illness, to remain optimistic about the future, but lets face it we, none of us knows when our end is nigh. I loved the last comment about how to help and personally feel that shortly, alzheimers will not be the sentence that it has been to this time. I wish him love and strength.
Damn!
This is just too bad. I certainly wish him well, and look forward to any and all of his future books.
